This summer, ALIS was lucky enough to be selected to be a participant organization in BOYNECLARKE LLP’s summer student program. During the summer, one of BOYNECLARKE LLP’s second year law students will spend her time working with ALIS. ALIS was doubly lucky as the student assigned to us is Alix – already a prior ALIS volunteer!
We’re very excited to have her on board with us for the summer and she’s already done a tremendous amount of work since her start in June.
We’d like you to get to know her a bit better, so here she is!
Alix obtained her LLB (Honours) from Queen Mary, University of London and then her Post-graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the University of Law, London. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Saint Mary’s University with a double-major in History and French.
“For me, working with the Artists’ Legal Information Society was a no-brainer. Being born and raised in Halifax, I am delighted by the opportunity to give back to the community. While at law school I developed a keen interest in intellectual property law. My time with the Artists’ Legal Information Society allows me to continue to explore my passion for the arts and further develop my legal skills and knowledge, in the hopes of one day focusing my practice on helping local artists and arts organizations.”
Since 2010, Alix has spent her time away from school working as a legal assistant/paralegal with BOYNECLARKE LLP. While at Queen Mary, University of London she worked as a Student Legal Advisor for the school’s Law for the Arts, Legal Advice Clinic. Alix’s role at the clinic was to offer free legal advice to people involved in the creative arts and to help London’s aspiring artists to protect and promote their creativity. Alix’s work with the Law for the Arts Clinic was recognized, as she was a finalist in the Reed Smith Competition for the Top Student Legal Advisors. Alix has participated in several of BOYNECLARKE LLP’s fundraising initiatives and has volunteered for organizations including Ronald McDonald House, FEED Nova Scotia and the London Legal Walk.
A bit about BOYNECLARKE LLP:
Founded in 1972, BOYNECLARKE LLP is one of Atlantic Canada’s largest full-service law firms. The firm offers clients a diverse variety of personal, business and institutional services. At the heart of BOYNECLARKE LLP successful practice is the firm’s strong community commitment. The firm’s lawyers and staff serve on a number of boards, committees and local not-for-profit organizations that positively impacts the local community.
In 2001, BOYNECLARKE LLP launched the Firm’s bespoke and Zenith Gold Award-Winning summer student program. The program instils the importance of community involvement in the firm’s future article clerks prior to commencing their legal career. Summer students are given the opportunity to work with a local community-based organization at the firm’s expense. Given plenty of choice, students are allowed to pick their organization based on their own interests.
